The Rajasthan government is committed to preserving Jaipur’s prestige and rich heritage by ensuring the proper rehabilitation of individuals engaged in begging. District Collector Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni has instructed departmental officers to work collaboratively to make the district beggary-free.
During a meeting at the Collectorate on Wednesday, he emphasized the importance of effectively rehabilitating individuals involved in begging, enabling them to lead a respectable life through their skills and efforts. He directed the police and traffic authorities to identify such individuals, assist in their rescue, and take strict legal action if any criminal activities were found.
Municipal officials were tasked with maintaining cleanliness in rehabilitation homes, repairing toilets, and ensuring the availability of essential facilities. Additionally, these homes will be linked with the Annapurna Rasoi Yojana to provide adequate food, while employment and self-employment opportunities will be created through skill training.
The Medical Department was instructed to arrange health check-ups and treatments for individuals engaged in begging, connect rehabilitation homes with nearby government hospitals, and ensure access to medical care.
The District Child Protection Unit was directed to compile a list of children involved in begging and share it with the Education Department so they could be admitted to children’s homes, destitute shelters, or local schools for proper education.
The Social Justice and Empowerment Department was assigned to conduct a survey in collaboration with the police, voluntary organizations, and other departments to identify individuals involved in begging and relocate them to rehabilitation centers, women’s shelters, old age homes, or mental health institutions. They will also be linked with social security schemes for further support.
The Rajasthan Skill and Livelihood Development Corporation was instructed to organize residential training programs for the identified individuals and connect them with self-employment opportunities, loan schemes, and grant programs.
The meeting was attended by officials from the district administration, police, municipal corporation, social justice and empowerment department, medical and health department, child protection unit, and various voluntary organizations.
